Film Synopsis:
Wanda the Wonderful is a depression era Docu-Western about a passionate and volatile Wild West sharpshooter who struggles to escape from the mistakes of her past.
Wanda is a thoroughly modern woman of the 1920's, a mixture between a cowgirl and a flapper. Growing up in the Chickasaw Indian Territory, she is a woman who totes guns and wears pants when skirts are the norm. She travels the world as "Wanda Savage" with her sharpshooting act, but as her performance career starts to wane, she ends up at the Ritz, a Wyoming brothel. She finds escape in a big hearted, hard working sheep rancher named Carl whom she marries. But there's more to Wanda's past than the glamour of show business. Wanda has four children by three different men whom she left behind in order to pursue her career. A few years after this secret is revealed Wanda is ill with cancer and is drinking to ease the pain. She gets in a heated fight with Carl and losing her temper she shoots him.
The film takes a hybrid form, combining dramatic narrative, documentary and experimental media to reveal Wanda’s story. Scripted scenes based on events from Wanda's life form the narrative arc of the film, centering on her relationship with the filmmaker’s grandfather, Wanda’s fourth and final husband.
